Vietnam
Da Nang · Hanoi · Ho Chi Minh · Nha Trang
Vietnam's adult scene is the most underground of the countries in this guide — operating behind closed doors, spread across hostess bars, KTVs, and massage establishments, and requiring local knowledge to navigate properly. Ho Chi Minh City is the centre, with Bui Vien walking street serving the backpacker and bar crowd in District 1.
The Bui Vien strip is the most visible and tourist-accessible. It's loud, chaotic, cheap, and runs until 4am. It's not primarily a P4P scene — it's a bar street — but the surrounding blocks have the establishment types you're looking for if you know what to look for. Massage shops are everywhere and exist on the same spectrum as everywhere else in the region.
KTVs — karaoke bars with private rooms and female companionship — are the dominant format for the local and regional Asian market. Many don't cater to Western tourists at all, and language is a barrier. The ones that do are found around District 1 and Nguyen Hue. Hanoi has a scene but it's smaller and more conservative than Ho Chi Minh City.
For anyone whose primary interest is the scene rather than the country, base yourself in Ho Chi Minh City. The city is energetic, the food is excellent, and the value for money rivals Cambodia.
